I had completed a similar painting to this (see Palms over Red) and wanted to improve on it. I usually do not use this kind of blended sky and had to use cloth to actually smooth the transition from yellow to red. The result was nice and the blend turned out smooth and seamless. I would have to say that I did improve over the first one however they both have unique qualities.
